I don't know if you have heard or seen, but the American Humanist Association, according to reports, spent $40,000 developing an ad for the Metro buses in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. The ad reads, "Why believe in God? Just be good for 'goodness sake." Accompanying the text is a picture of a girl in a Santa Claus suit shrugging her shoulders.
Upon hearing about this campaign, JoEllen Murphy took the initiative to do something about it. Jo Ellen writes,
I thought, "Well, why not develop our own ad?" I called Metro and to do the same ad campaign would cost about $14,000 to have the posters printed and buy the spaces on the buses. Their ad campaign, and therefore ours, consists of 10 ads on the sides of buses, 10 ads on the tail of the buses, and 200 (was the minimum) on the inside of the buses. You buy the space for a minimum of four weeks.
Our ad will say, "Why believe? Because I created you and I love you, for goodness sake. -- God", with a picture of just the arms and fingers reaching out to touch each other from that famous picture in the Sistine Chapel of God and Adam.
Their ads started running on the outside of the buses last week and the inside of the buses next week. Once I raise the money, it will take 6-10 business days to get the ads produced and on the buses. So, that puts us around the 3rd week of December before they are on the buses."
Wow! This is powerful! What a great thing to do to share the love and hope of Christ to our fellow citizens. Remember, we are on a mission. Our mission is to "restore the dignity of the Catholic faith, and rebuild the foundations of a Catholic culture." This is another small way that we can help to carry out this mission. Through this campaign, we can make a difference in a world that is thirsting for the Truth. Go here to make a donation and read more about the I Believe Too campaign.
