With two serious ballerinas for daughters, our fall and early winter is spent rehearsing and preparing for The Nutcracker. It's become a family tradition. This year the tradition was sidelined by the snowstorm of 2009 that hit the East Coast. The weather reports predicted it, but we kept telling ourselves that surely it would wait and come after the three scheduled performances. It didn't! Saturday morning we woke up to 16 inches of snow on the ground and it was still coming down. Long story short, the show was cancelled leaving a lot of very disappointed dancers, teachers and parents. For weeks, we assumed that was it. No Nutcracker for 2009. Thankfully, due to the perseverance and hard work of the ballet studio, the show was able to take place this past weekend. It was well worth the wait! Polichenelles, Sugar Plum Fairies, Reed Pipes, Gypsy Dolls, Snow Queens and Dew Drop Fairies are just as pretty in January!
