Her courage never ceases to amaze me. Everyday, I learn so much from Catie going out of her comfort zone and trying new things. This Thursdays new adventure is a biggie for her! And if its big for her, it's super big for mom and dad.
Thursday, Catie will travel with seven Special Olympic athletes from our area and their three coaches to San Juan, Puerto, Rico to participate in the Special Olympic Latin American games. All of the athletes are representing Special Olympics Virginia and Northern Virginia Area 26. An estimated 1,000 athletes from many countries are expected to compete. Countries/islands invited to compete are Aruba, Bahamas, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Curaçao, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Cayman Islands, Montserrat, St. Kitts/Nevis, St. Lucia, Suriname, US Virgin Islands, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panamá, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, USA, Spain, Italy, Greece, South Africa, Austria and Spain.
Catie will be competing in the Triathalon and long distance swimming events.
Unfortunately, we will not be there to support her and cheer her on, but she will be on our minds and in our prayers the entire 10 days that she is gone. I'm hoping with the help of one of her coaches to journal the trip through commentary and pictures.
Our first challenge is packing. There is a limited amount of specific gear that must accompany Catie. For a young lady who wants to bring everything, this will be a challenge! We have the list and the gear. Tomorrow the packing begins!
Please keep Catie's safety, performance and joy in your prayers!
