I had never seen this painting before, "The Annunciation", by John Collier, until Bethany posted it on her blog (one of my favorites!). It truly captures the incredible event that the Annunciation was and the complete openness of the Blessed Mother to do God's will. Bethany's post says all that is on my heart today, as I ponder the Fiat of Our Lady.
I have to say, if Gabriel had appeared to me, we might not have a Savior. I probably would have just fainted on the spot. When I revived, if Gabriel was still hanging around, I might have screamed and run in the other direction, Jonah-style. But, Mary does none of these things. She doesn't run away. She doesn't pass out. She doesn't say, "What are you, nuts?" She doesn't even question that God will do this amazing work in her. She asks one simple question: "How?"
Be sure and read the entire post. Thank you Bethany for sharing!
