Act NOW to make a difference in our state, our country!

The last year has been rather bleak politically. However, rather than give up and give into the liberal agenda on the political front, it is more important than ever before that we fight and make our voices heard. You may be asking, "What can I do?" "How can I make a difference and fight?" Well, here is your opportunity.

Here in Virginia, we have some important state-wide elections in November. We will be electing a new Governor, Lt. Governor and a new Attorney General. As the head of the "law firm" for the Commonwealth of Virginia, the next Attorney General will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on how our state government operates and how our state laws are enforced.

A fine man, Ken Cuccinelli, is running for Attorney General. Ken has been a State Senator representing Fairfax County since 2002. . He has been vociferous and consistent in his defense of human life from conception until natural death. . He was one of only two state legislators who campaigned in our area to win the marriage amendment to protect marriage between one man and one woman. . Ken has also been a strong and successful defender of our property rights and has fought hard to keep our state taxes low. Ken is a homeschooling father of six, soon to be seven children.

I strongly encourage you to help Ken in his race so that he can to be the voice of reason we need in the VA Attorney General's office. He needs your help *NOW* to win the Republican nomination, so that he move on to run against the Democrat nominee in November. This year, the Republican nominees will be elected at the Virginia Republican Convention to be held in Richmond on May 30th. Can you give one day to make your voice heard and begin to push back against the liberal tide? I'm sure some of you do not consider yourselves politically inclined and would normally chose not to make such an effort. The day will be worth all your effort.

I ask you to challenge yourself. The liberal agenda was so incredibly successful in large part last November because of the foot soldiers who made such vigorous efforts to help their candidates. If we want to change the tide, we must not only pray, but work and sacrifice our time.

The deadline to register to vote at the state convention is this Saturday, March 7th. If you have not already done so, please print and send in the form that can be found here  to be a "delegate" to the Republican Convention on May 30th. It must be RECEIVED by Saturday 3/7.  If you can not get it in the mail by Thursday, contact Ken's campaign at 703-766-0635 (or at Noah@Cuccinelli.com) and they will have someone pick it up and deliver it for you. [**Please note that all fees are voluntary - and - it is NOT required to attend any county meetings in order to attend the VA Republican Convention**].

My husband and I have known Ken and his wife Teiro for the last six years.  I cannot say enough good things about him.  In addition to being a Catholic, homeschooling father of six (soon to be seven!), Ken is not afraid to stand up for his beliefs and fight.  His record proves that he will not compromise his values or sit back and watch our democracy crumble.  Ken will be a leader and a fighter 100% of the time.

And don't be daunted by the prospects of attending a state convention in Richmond.  I have been a delegate many times since I was able to vote.  I have brought nursing babies many times to the event.  The day will be interesting and exhilirating.  There is a feeling of accomplishment knowing that you are doing something to make a difference.  In addition, you can be assured that you will see many familiar faces.  If you have kids who can vote, have them register as a delegate too.

Where I wanted to be Saturday

I wish I had been there.

 

I am with Rush. 

I do want President Obama to fail.  Why?   

I want American democracy to stand firm.  I want capitalism to flourish.  I want the right to life at all stages to be protected.  I want the government to be limited and not a major force in my way of life.  I don't want to pay higher taxes.  I want the troops to succeed in Iraq.   I want the liberties of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution to be preserved. I want the U.S. military to be the strongest and best in the world.  I want the future for my children and grandchildren to be bright.  I want everyone to have the opportunity to be the best that they can be. 

I want the country to succeed.  I don't believe it can do that if President Obama and his administration succeed.

That doesn't mean I am not praying for President Obama.  I am and my children are.  We are praying for his conversion of heart and mind everyday.  And I am praying for people like Rush Limbaugh who have the courage to say what needs to be said.

Where are our leaders?

It's hard to read the paper these days ... definitely discouraging and depressing. I used to enjoy listening to my radio talk show favorites while running kids here and there, but now I just can't handle it. I know I can't give into the despair. I have to stay hopeful. I have to stay engaged. I have to stay informed and involved. There is so much at stake. But I need something to rally around. Yes, the issues motivate me, but I need someone to speak for me in the public arena. It seems that for so long that voice has been absent. Where are the leaders who represent me? Hearing Governor Bobby Jindal Tuesday night made that little spark of hope start to flame up in me. I started to feel that adrenaline to "fight" - to persevere - come alive again. Reading his conversion story inspired me even more.  He definitely is someone to watch.

Finally a voice that makes sense

Ever since the election, I have been looking for a voice from the conservative side to stand up and represent those of us who did not vote for President-elect Obama.  It has been so frustrating, listening to all that the new Congress and new Administration want to do, without a reasonable, rational voice responding.  We need leadership!  We need rational leaders to stand up and speak for us!  I am praying that more men and women like Governor Bobby Jindal will come forward.   What he has to say is on target and in my mind, it must be the strategy of the conservative movement if we hope to lead this great nation again.

On the lessons of the last election cycle:   "There are at least three lessons that immediately jump out at me. The first is that the party must consistently do what it says. You can't be the party of fiscal discipline and tolerate the kind of spending that our party has accepted in the last several years, especially in Washington. Our actions have to match our rhetoric.  ... We can't be the party of fiscal discipline when we're tolerating and approving the kinds of spending we've seen at least the last eight years.   Secondly, we've got to consistently oppose corruption in our own party. It's not enough to make excuses that 'the other side does it'.   ...We've got to be a party of ideas. We can't be the party of "no." We've got to be a party that's unafraid of our conservative principles. I'm not one who looks at these election results and says we should abandon what we stand for.   ...We have to apply our ideas to the problems Americans care about." 

On President elect-Obama:  "The president deserves our support as Americans. In church, we pray for our president, whether we voted for him or not. I think we should look for opportunities to work across party lines with him. I also think as Americans we also have an obligation to stand on principle when we disagree. We should genuinely want him to succeed. Our country is facing not only an economic challenge, but also international threats. I want him to succeed and I want our country to thrive under his administration. Clearly I will have philosophical disagreements with him and his administration. He deserves a chance to hit the ground running. He hasn't proposed his first bill. Republicans make a mistake in Congress if they simply go there and say their mission in life is to say, 'no' to every proposal. I think we should look for opportunities to work with him. I also think we should be proactive if we don't agree with him and offer (alternative) solutions. It's not to filibuster what we don't li ke and protest on the House floor; we need solutions."

On the Republican Party:  "Too much focus on the messenger and not enough on the message. The Republican Party needs to do two things: One, we need to stop worrying about the Republican Party and start worrying about our country. Second, we need to stop worrying about the messenger and start worrying about substance. We will deserve to be a majority party again when we show the American people we are competent, we truly believe the principles we espouse and we've got relevant solutions to the things they care about, whether it's the economy, health care, international terrorism."

On social issues:  "Two things. The country didn't stop being conservative; the Republican Party stopped being conservative. It's a mistake to say being conservative causes you to lose elections. We haven't tried that recently. We need to go back to our roots. American voters reward authenticity. They're not going to agree 100 percent with every candidate. What voters are looking for are candidates who are honest and tell them what they truly believe, stick to those beliefs. On the core conservative issues -- I don't think a majority of those who voted for Obama necessarily agreed with him on abortion or marriage.  I don't believe the way to win elections is to abandon our beliefs. We've got to stand for something. I'm pro-life and fiscally conservative. You look at how Reagan got conservative Democrats. I'm sure there were people who voted for Reagan who didn't necessarily agree with everything he espoused, but they respected him for being principled and not having to read a poll to learn what he believed."

On faith:  "I read Rick Warren's book "The Purpose Driven Life" right after I lost my first election in 2003 and one of the main lessons I got out of that was keeping the eternal perspective. If we truly believe what we read in the Bible and hear in our churches there are a lot of things we worry about in life that aren't that important from an eternal perspective. There are things more important than winning the next election.  You realize you're not indispensable. The world can continue whether you are in or out of office, whether your party is in the majority or not. At the end of the day, we are not in control of everything. If you don't have that perspective, it can mean elected officials taking shortcuts to an end that justified the means.  ...Second, viewing the sanctity of life, I believe the reason people are valuable is that they are created in the image of God and there's a dignity there. And that leads me to believe people should have access to health care, not because of policy reasons, but because they're valuable because we are created by God in His image."

Embrace the Gospel of Life

The so-called Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) is the most radical pro-abortion potential piece of legislation proposed by the U.S. Congress.  President-elect Obama has promised that he will sign it.   The ramifications of this legislation are far reaching.  In a nutshell, FOCA will negate all state-level restrictions on abortion and force Catholic health care professionals and institutions to perform abortions or close their doors.  It also leads to the next step of taxpayer funded abortions.

We need to act immediately.  YOUR involvement is crucial.  Everyone needs to act and not rely on the other guy to do it.  It is our moral duty ... our Catholic duty.  What can you do?

1.  Sign the FOCA petition.

2.  Send your representative an email against FOCA.  It's easy.  Go here to do it.

3.  PRAY!  Pray a novena ( 9 days of prayer ) with the intention of fighting FOCA, starting on January 11th.

4.  Fast for this intention.

5.  Ask your family and friends to join you!

Don't become discouraged.  We need to do this for our children, our future and all unborn babies.

STATEMENT OF HIS EMINENCE, EDWARD CARDINAL EGAN CONCERNING REMARKS MADE BY THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Like many other citizens of this nation, I was shocked to learn that the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America would make the kind of statements that were made to Mr. Tom Brokaw of NBC-TV on Sunday, August 24, 2008. What the Speaker had to say about theologians and their positions regarding abortion was not only misinformed; it was also, and especially, utterly incredible in this day and age.

We are blessed in the 21st century with crystal-clear photographs and action films of the living realities within their pregnant mothers. No one with the slightest measure of integrity or honor could fail to know what these marvelous beings manifestly, clearly, and obviously are, as they smile and wave into the world outside the womb. In simplest terms, they are human beings with an inalienable right to live, a right that the Speaker of the House of Representatives is bound to defend at all costs for the most basic of ethical reasons. They are not parts of their mothers, and what they are depends not at all upon the opinions of theologians of any faith. Anyone who dares to defend that they may be legitimately killed because another human being “chooses” to do so or for any other equally ridiculous reason should not be providing leadership in a civilized democracy worthy of the name.

Scary Thought

"The United States can't afford a commander-in-chief who travels to other countries with his hat in his hand and begs for some understanding. We need a president who will stand up for America, not apologize on her behalf. And if Obama had no qualms about delivering this speech to the European public, what's to stop him from doing it in private with Ahmadinejad in Iran?
